Identification of key attributes for bike-sharing systems
The aim of OBIS WP 3 is to determine central conditions for the success of bike sharing systems (BSS) in European cities. The data collection in OBIS WP 2 encompassed 51 systems, out of which 3 have already been closed and replaced, and 2 were pilots (Kraków and Gothenburg/Lundby). Many different notions of “success” have been discussed in the project, and it has been recognised that different stakeholders have different interests. Three main stakeholder groups have been identified, with partly different agendas: politicians, operators and users. Since the OBIS project is generally formulated to answer to the questions and needs of many different stakeholders, we treat each stakeholder group separately—their respective goals, relevant indicators for success and for success factors—in chapter 6.
